5. Determine the Best Sitting Position

It used to be that experts thought that sitting straight up was the best position for good posture. Recent studies show that this position can actually strain your spine. It turns out that a 135 degree body sitting posture is the best sitting position. Researchers compared three different sitting positions in their study. One was slouched forward, one was at a 90 degree angle, and one was reclining backward at a 135 degree angle. The researchers concluded on the basis of MRIs that the 135 degree position put the least stress on the spine and may reduce the risk of back pain. Therefore, it would be good if employers provide seating for their employees that will allow them to recline. This will cut down on lost work time that results from problems with back pain.
