11. Don’t Ignore Snoring

Approximately 20 percent of adults suffer from sleep apnea. This is a condition where you stop breathing for extended periods during sleep. If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease. Common symptoms of sleep apnea include waking tired even though you got a full night’s sleep and loud snoring. If you experience these symptoms, you should talk to your doctor about getting a sleep study. During a sleep study, you will be hooked up to a number of electrodes. These electrodes will measure your oxygen level, breathing pattern, and heart rate. If the test confirms a diagnosis of sleep apnea, your doctor will recommend treatment with a CPAP machine, which forces air into the lungs using positive pressure.
